Headteacher's Welcome

As part of United Learning and an academy since January 2015, The Hurlingham Academy is being transformed into a centre of educational excellence. With calm and friendly classrooms, staff and students have the perfect environment to do what they do best: teach and learn.

Located just south of Parsons Green in the west London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, the small 11-16 school is the kind of place where you can make a huge impact at every level and in every role, whilst being able to enjoy the benefits of a central London location.

Having undergone some radical changes in terms of approach and leadership, with the support of Dame Sally Coates and United Learning, the school is embedding permanent improvement at a rapid rate. As part of a cluster of United Learning schools in London and the Southeast – which includes Paddington Academy and Lambeth Academy – we benefit from excellent partnerships and shared working.

What do people say?

We are fiercely proud of the fact that when people come to visit the school, they are struck by the exemplary behaviour of the students and the enthusiasm of staff and students alike. The positive atmosphere and excellent relationships between staff and students mean that visitors regularly comment on how happy and welcoming everyone at the academy is.

Leon Wilson

Principal

Vision

Our aim is to provide an outstanding education in an exceptional environment, where every child has the opportunity to achieve the highest level of academic success.

We instil in our students these core values:

  • Ambition – to achieve the best for ourselves and others;
  • Confidence – to have the courage of our convictions and to take risks in the right cause;
  • Creativity – to imagine possibilities and make them real;
  • Competition – striving to gain or win something;
  • Respect – for ourselves and others in all that we do;
  • Enthusiasm – to seek opportunity, find what is good and pursue talents and interests;
  • Determination – to overcome obstacles and reach success.

What our students say...

  • ‘I believe that The Hurlingham Academy is on its way to greatness. I am looking forward to my GCSE exam results as I am confident that I will achieve the best grades possible for me with the help provided by the academy.’
    Year 11 student
  • ‘I can’t believe how different the school is since it became The Hurlingham Academy. I love that we now learn a lot in every single lesson. I also really enjoy being able to contribute to the school – the teachers really listen to us and respect what we say.’
    Year 9 student

What our staff say...

  • “I have learned so much working at The Hurlingham Academy. All the staff here are really keen to share good practice and help each other to develop. I have been given excellent CPD opportunities, both in-house, through great teaching and learning sessions, and through United Learning. The senior leaders here are really keen to help you nurture your professional interests. What makes this Academy really special is the students; I enjoy teaching every lesson. We genuinely have disruption-free classrooms and students who are really keen to make the very most of their education. It’s a real privilege teaching here.”
    Miss S Martin, Head of Humanities
  • “I joined The Hurlingham Academy as an NQT in 2015 and have greatly enjoyed my time here. With the academy being a relatively small school I feel as though I am able to have an impact across the academy, and get to really know all of the students. The Hurlingham Academy has the added benefit of being part of United Learning which affords excellent CPD opportunities. This past year I have been able to undertake the Outstanding Facilitator Programme (OFP), in addition to a variety of in-house training opportunities.”
    Mr A Wilson, Lead Practitioner for Maths
  •  “I joined The Hurlingham Academy in November 2015 as Office Manager and have been made very welcome.  All the staff are friendly and happy to answer any queries I may have.  I worked in a primary school for many years and now I am enjoying the challenge of being part of a secondary school community.

    Although I have experience of working in a school, life in a secondary school is quite different and I have been hugely excited to learn more with the help of my colleagues and the considerable opportunities offered by United Learning and I have already been able to develop my ICT skills to the next level.”
    Mrs A Gibbons, Office Manager
