Students at The Hurlingham Academy are celebrating after achieving another excellent set of GCSE results today – consolidating four years of improvements.
This summer, 78% of students achieved five or more good passes (grade 4 or above) including English and maths, with a number of them celebrating gaining top grades of 8 and 9.
Under the government’s Basics measure, 80% of students achieved at least a grade 4 in both English and maths and 60% achieved a higher level pass (grade 5 or above) in the two subjects. There was even an increase in the percentage of students achieving the top grades of 7 to 9 in English and maths combined – rising to 23% from 17% last year.
Alongside this, there were some similarly impressive individual successes, particularly for the highest grades of 8 and 9.

"I didn't expect to do this well and I am just really pleased. I've been to schools in Germany and Japan but this is the best school I've been to with the most supportive teachers. I am so grateful."
Student Hamza Gallo also said:
"I am so surprised, this is an incredible feeling. Three 9s! Four 8s! The hard work was 100% worth it."
Aisha Tahliil, who achieved five 9s, said:
"I was worrying all last night but now I am so relieved and so happy! I can't wait to tell my History teacher that I got a 9!"
Leon Wilson, Principal of The Hurlingham Academy, said:
“I hope all our students celebrating today take great pride in their achievements, which are the culmination of five years’ effort, ambition and determination. Our Year 11s have been fantastic role models within the academy and I know that today’s results too will act as inspiration for our younger students.
“As always, I would like to thank our excellent staff team, who work tirelessly to provide all the support, guidance and encouragement students need to achieve their best. It is fantastic for us to be able to share in students’ celebrations today and see them all take their next steps with confidence. We look forward to following what I know will be very successful futures for them all.”
