Hurlingham students attend Disney premiere

Students meet cast including Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon

Students from The Hurlingham Academy attended the European Premiere of A Wrinkle in Time, the new Disney film, last week and were introduced to the stars of the film – which include Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon.

The film, which celebrates female empowerment, follows the story of a young girl who goes looking for her father who disappears after discovering a new planet. The four Hurlingham students who were chosen to attend the premiere had all impressed the school with their own personal resilience and dedication to their work.

Students from The Hurlingham Academy were joined by pupils from another United Learning school, Surbiton High School. The invitations to the premiere were made possible by a former Surbiton High School pupil, Edwina Dunn, who runs a global initiative aimed at empowering women and young girls, The Female Lead.

Leon Wilson, Principal of The Hurlingham Academy said:

“We were very pleased to receive these invitations to the premiere of a film that so rightly celebrates ‘girl power’ and is full of positive female role models. We are fortunate that our girls at The Hurlingham Academy have strong role models in the school but it is lovely to be able to send some of them to something like this as a celebration of their hard work.”

Precious, one of The Hurlingham Academy students who attended, said:

“This experience has taught me that everyone has a light and as long as you don’t underestimate yourself, no one can underestimate you.”
