Open Evening Success!

The Hurlingham Academy welcomed local families through its doors last week, as it kicked off its series of autumn open events.

The academy, which celebrated a third consecutive year of significant improvement in its GCSE results this past summer, invited prospective children and their families to its first open evening of the new academic year.

As part of the event, children were encouraged to visit the school’s four newly-refurbished science laboratories to try out several exciting experiments. In other departments, the visitors also experienced African drumming in music, word and number games in Spanish, clay modelling in art and talks on trench warfare in history.

In advance of the open events, the academy’s Principal Leon Wilson, said:

“We have seen tremendous improvements at The Hurlingham Academy, and visitors regularly remark on what a difference they can see and feel when they walk around the school. Our students are polite, diligent and friendly young people and they are our best ambassadors; I have been pleased to see our older cohorts helping our new Year 7 students to settle in so well this month.

“Our school culture at the academy is about bringing out the best in everyone; nurturing the individual talents of our students, giving them a broad skill set and knowledge-base and, most importantly, building in them the confidence to succeed. We look forward to meeting many local families over the next few weeks at our open events – making a visit really is the best way to get to know a school and what it can offer your child.”

The academy will also be hosting a week of open mornings beginning Monday 2nd October, as well as several further dates throughout the month. Further information is available on its website at www.thehurlinghamacademy.org.uk.
