As I hopped on my Boris bike after school this week, I noticed two wonderful aspects of our local community.  Firstly, I enjoyed the beauty that autumn brings.  The leaves changing colour and the clear blue skies really look stunning surrounding our school.

It is hard to believe that the half term holiday is already upon us. It has been a busy week here at The Hurlingham Academy, with our usual House competitions, African Activities workshops and The Taste of Hurlingham. Events such as these are why I love coming to work; we are here to deliver an education with character.

Newsletter 12.12.2025

It has been another busy week at The Hurlingham Academy. As you know, I love December and the spirit of Christmas, but I also believe that good (or in our case, outstanding) schools don’t wind down. As I walked around the school this week, I saw pupils working hard in every classroom. It has also been lovely to see Key Stage 4 pupils starting to receive feedback from their mock papers, and even better to see how positively they are responding. Lessons will maintain their usual rigour right until the end of term.

Newsletter 05.12.25

I cannot begin my weekly message without expressing my heartfelt gratitude for your incredible generosity towards the Jamaica Appeal. It has been truly emotional and inspiring to witness the kindness and support shown by all of you. Your donations will make a real difference, and we are deeply appreciative of your commitment to helping others.

Newsletter 27.11.25

This week we hosted our first parent meetings of the year with the Year 7 Meet the Tutor Evening. It was fantastic to see so many parents come in to discuss how their children have settled into secondary school. We understand that the transition from primary to secondary is a significant moment, not only for the students, but for parents as well.

Newsletter 21.11.25

This week, I have taken some time to reflect on our relationships with the parents and carers of the pupils in our care. As a Head, I do my best to be open to feedback from all of our stakeholders, including staff, students and, of course, parents. This, to me, is one of the most important things we do as a school, as we will only be able to build a lasting culture of success for our students if home and school are working in unison to do so.

Newsletter 14.11.25

This week, I have been reflecting on the amazing community we have built here at The Hurlingham Academy. Last week, I wrote about the devastating effect of Hurricane Melissa and asked for any donations people were able to make. I can honestly say that the response has been phenomenal. Every day, I have seen pupils and parents arriving with shopping bags full of donations. I have been truly blown away by everyone’s generosity.

Newsletter 07.11.25

After a week of rest, reflection, and revision, both staff and students have returned to school this week full of energy and enthusiasm. For Year 11 students, I’m sure much of the half-term break was spent creating revision timetables and preparing for their upcoming mock exams.

Newsletter 24.10.25

Over the month of October, we have been very much looking outward at the world around us, with the commencement of Black History Month. For me, this is one of the most intellectually and emotionally engaging months of the year, as it gives us the opportunity to reflect on the profound impact of some truly inspirational individuals.

Newsletter 17.10.25

This week, our pupils have once again been at the heart of everything we do at the Academy. On Thursday, Mr Pudney hosted our first school council meeting of the academic year. I always look forward to hearing the feedback from these sessions. It's inspiring to learn what our pupils appreciate about the Academy, as well as the areas where they see room for improvement.

Newsletter 10.10.25

This week, I’ve been reflecting on the vital role our pupils play in the daily life of The Hurlingham Academy. Ultimately, the success of our academy is built on their contributions, and it’s been wonderful to see so many pupils stepping up. Our Year 11 prefects have been particularly outstanding over the past few weeks.
