Joining Us in Year 7

At The Hurlingham Academy, we understand that starting secondary school can be both exciting and daunting, so we have a thorough and comprehensive transition programme for all children moving up from primary school.  Our staff work closely with primary schools to ensure every students’ transition into Year 7 is as smooth as possible.  

All of the important information about the academy and starting secondary school can be found on the parent and student pages of the website - click on the links in the top right hand corner or the footer that show the Parents and Students portal.  

For parents we've posted term dates, newsletters, the Parent Handbook and more. For students; Show My Homework, Sparx Maths, the House System amongst other useful items.  Please familiarise yourself with these areas of the web site along with checking this page for additional updated content.  

Key Dates for students joining Year 7 in September 2025

Transition Interviews (parents & students) Monday 9th June 4pm - 6pm Parents and students meet with key staff members for an introductory meeting. There are no allocated time slots for this so please just turn up between 4-6pm.
SEN Induction Morning Friday 13th June 9am - 11am       Students should wear their Primary school uniform. A snack will be provided to the students.
Student Induction Day Friday 20th June     9am - 3pm        Students should wear their Primary school uniform and shoes suitable for PE. Lunch is provided FREE OF CHARGE.
Parents' Induction Evening (for parents and students)         Wednesday 2nd July 5pm - 6.30pm     We welcome all Parents/Carers as well as students. Students will meet their form tutor and collect their Summer Homework Booklet. Parents will meet the Executive Principal and they will receive their Transition Pack.
Transition Summer Camp Dates to be announced soon 9am - 3pm This is completely free of charge for the incoming Year 7 students. Register your interest through the Admission Form. Students should wear comfortable clothes suitable for activities.
Uniform Sale Saturday 9th August 12 - 4pm  Khalsa Schoolwear will assist parents and students in purchasing the new uniform. Alternatively, you may visit the uniform shop or their online service.
First day of school for Year 7 students Wednesday 3rd September 8.25am - 3.25pm The first day at school for our new Year 7 students.

Many families have a lot of the same questions and concerns surrounding transition and we are committed to working with you to address any issues.  All of the key information you need as parents will be uploaded to this website for easy access.  We will post useful links / videos for your child to engage with which will help to prepare them for the big move.

It also has practical tips for you as a parent on how to prepare your child for secondary school, as well as resources to help start discussion around transition, produced in partnership with YoungMinds.
