The Library at The Hurlingham Academy

Opening Times:

Monday to Friday 7.45 am to 4.00 pm
The library is based on the ground floor at the front of the school.

Reference Library:

The library gives access to a range of material covering the curriculum from KS3 to GCSE. It can be used for study and research, but we also encourage students to read for leisure and pleasure.
There are a range of resources, including books, newspapers, periodicals, inter-active CD ROMs and the Internet. These materials are clearly catalogued so that pupils can find information easily and quickly. Years 7 to 11 may use the library before school, at lunchtime and at the end of the day. Pupils will also participate in one weekly timetabled library lesson in KS3 which is structured and connected to the English curriculum.

Fiction Library:

The stock of fiction books provides a good selection of popular works in Junior, Teenage and Senior sections as well as favourite classics. New stock is bought each term and the library team would welcome suggestions for additional titles.

Borrowing and Returning Books:

Pupils may borrow up to three books for a period of two weeks from the library. Pupils may renew books so long as they are not required by another reader. However, certain popular titles are available only for short-term loan.

Students can also find books to loan using our online library catalogue & track their borrowed items using this link - https://uk.accessit.online/thh05/#!dashboard

Computer Access:

The library has a computer section where students can access the academy network, e-mails and the internet during their free time. This area of the library is also used during some lessons.

Individual Reading:

Independent reading is absolutely critical to the development of pupils’ literacy skills. It also has an important role to play in developing pupils’ imagination and their understanding of the wider world. Please ensure that your child has a reading book to bring to school and encourage them to use the library and to read as much as possible.
