Assemblies provide opportunities for the year group to meet on a regular basis. They play an important part in the moral, cultural and social development of our students. They develop understanding of The Hurlingham Academy’s values, foster a spirit of unity and community, and raise awareness of the beliefs, needs and rights of others. We use this time to discuss current moral and ethical issues and to stimulate the exploration of more complex philosophical ideas.
We also use assemblies as a time to celebrate and to take pride in the achievements of individual students, teams of students and the academy as a whole. As a school, assemblies
at The Hurlingham Academy are a time of collective thinking and reflection - the aims of which are:
• To provide a focal point of unity and strengthen a sense of community within the
academy.
• To reinforce a real sense of common purpose and common concern, and further
students’ spiritual and moral development.
• To promote concern for truth, justice and peace, and to express and affirm
values such as honesty, integrity, understanding, respect, tolerance, caring,
sharing, loving and forgiving.
• To develop understanding and appreciation for aspects of human life and the
natural world.
Each year group will have two assemblies each week both at 8:30 am. One of
these will be led by the Head of Year and our whole school assembly is led by Ms.
Quinton and a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Assemblies are compulsory
for all pupils.
